i think that ryan asked keltie out because he wanted to get away from brendon, i don’t think he liked the way brendon made him feel, or he just wanted to distance himself. it worked! i think ryan had genuine feelings for keltie and for the first year i think he and brendon completely stopped hooking up, and he was faithful to keltie

but, by ryan’s 21st, i think they had started back up again, as evidenced by when he abandoned keltie early in the morning to meet brendon in seattle (his favorite city) and spend his birthday with brendon, alone

i think that ryan realized he wasn’t feeling Real Genuine Love… i dont think that he NEVER felt anything for keltie. i think he really did. but it wasn’t… love. and once he realized he couldnt be in love with her, he was just like “fuck it” and started fucking other people. and brendon. he definitely started fucking brendon again

i think she had the world might have been about keltie… but like i said, he felt things for her, i think that they just faded, and he realized that he was never going to be in love with her. he loved her but it wasn’t Love. ya know

keltie once said that ryan told her the songs on pretty.odd were written about her, but she said that she had reasons to believe they were about someone else (i might be wrong about this? im pretty certain i saw this somewhere, im bad at sourcing)

anyway

so as for when the line was crossed, i think that ryan could feel himself crossing the line before he asked out keltie, and i dont think he wanted to admit it. brendon had already crossed it but ryan didn’t want to. so, keltie. and he did love her, but after the first year, i think he just decided to step over the line anyways. get it over with, etc.

I’m going to jump in since this is kinda my thoughts that I shared with Emily and she adopted, I hope that’s okay Emily.

Keltie and Ryan broke up because Keltie found out that Ryan had been cheating on her with multiple people, one of which being Brendon. After the break up Ryan moved in with Brendon, Spencer and Shane.

Now as Emily mentioned before, we believe Ryan hurt Brendon up not being able to fully commit, he was being vague, he wouldn’t give Brendon more than the, if we want to label it as something let’s call it Friends with Benefits song and dance they had going on.

I personally think that Brendon thought that Ryan’s take on their complicated mess would be resolved after Keltie and Ryan broke up, that Brendon would get some sort of clarity in terms of set rules or SOMETHING but it ended up not making a difference at all and Brendon became frustrated and felt used because Ryan wouldn’t give him what he wanted. 

When you’re feeling like that towards someone whom you are living with and working with, you never get a break from those feelings so those frustrations translated into the studio… and into the bedroom… and into the kitchen… and into the bar on a Sunday night, just trying to chill as friends, etc. so when Brendon had enough of the game Ryan was playing it was over in all facets - room mate, best friend, lover, co-worker, honorary family member… (As mentioned before after that we think they tried to stay friends, but Brendon didn’t know how to keep Ryan in his life while remaining faithful to Sarah and cut all ties).

TLDR, Ryan wasn’t going to leave his girlfriend FOR Brendon, and that upset Brendon and it snowballed into the mess we have today.
